Player ratings: Germany 2-1 Greece

Germany’s uneven performance against Greece caps a pre-tournament friendly tour that was less than inspiring. The EURO 2024 opener is now just a week away, and Julian Nagelsmann’s side does not look like it is about to storm into the Final.

Germany once again dominated possession while struggling to land on the scoreboard — and worse, conceded first. Clinical finishing is going to be needed, and fast. The new squad is less Bayern Munich centric than recent ones, but much has not changed.

Fortunately, this time there were positive signs. A result is a result once the tournament starts. Arsenal FC striker Kai Havertz delivered an equalizer early in the second half to avoid the game slipping away, and Brighton man Pascal Groß scored a cracker of a goal in the dying moments of the game to put this in the W column. Credit where credit is due — in recent tournaments, the German MNT has had far too little of that.

But while this was only a practice match, there is no denying that Germany would have hoped to look better. Much better.
