Men’s Tennis’ Papoe Earns Third Team CSC Academic All-America Honors – Cornell University Athletics

ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior Cornell men’s tennis star Radu Papoe, who posted a historical 2024 campaign that included becoming the first All-American in Cornell program history, was named a Third Team Academic All-America selection on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the College Sports Communicatiors (CSC).

The Ivy League’s lone representative on the CSC Academic All-America Team for men’s tennis this season, Papoe, who has a 3.52 cumulative grade-point average while studying economics, registered a 15-4 singles record during dual action, all of which came from the No. 1 position. In a season that has included an 8-2 record against ranked opponents and 7-1 record in Ivy action, Papoe garnered Cornell’s first Ivy League Player of the Year award in 24 years. He also became the fourth player in program history to earn back-to-back first team All-Ivy honors in singles.

Following his regular-season success, Papoe represented Cornell at the NCAA Singles Championship in Stillwater, Okla., on May 20, where he fell in his first-round match to Ohio State’s Jack Anthrop in a three-set match, 2-6, 6-4, 4-6. With the setback, Papoe concluded the 2023-24 season with an overall singles record of 21-7 and was ranked No. 20 in the ITA’s year-end singles rankings, one of three Big Red players to end the year ranked.

Along with his success in singles, Papoe excelled in doubles action with a 14-8 overall mark, including a 10-6 record from the No. 3 position with teammate Samuel Paquette.
