A few weeks ago, on May 16, Cameron Kellett, 24, a London, Ont., amateur golfer, shot a 6 under par 64 at Tarandowah Golf Course to not only qualify to play in the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, but also to set a new course record at Tarandowah. Shortly afterwards, he turned professional.
On Thursday, May 30, he played his first round at the RBC Canadian Open. At the end of his second round, on Friday, May 31 he had a 36-hole total score of 142, which was good enough to beat Nick Taylor, the 2023 RBC Canadian Open winner; Brent Snedeker, who won it in 2013; Sahith Theegala, who is ranked 13th by the Official World Golf Ranking; and about 60 other top professional golfers from around the world.
But it wasn’t good enough to make the cut. To make the cut Kellett needed a 36-hole score of 140 or better. He missed it by two shots.
