Bobcat Men’s Tennis Team Adds Youngstown State Transfer Nishant Dabas – Montana State University Athletics

BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State men’s tennis coach Rob Bareford announced Tuesday that Nishant Dabas, a second team all-conference selection at Youngstown State last season, has joined the Bobcats squad.

Dabas, originally from New Delhi, India, finished his sophomore season with a 10-16 record in singles play and an 18-8 doubles record to earn All-Horizon League Second Team honors. He played primarily No. 1 and No. 2 singles, and finished the season 4-4 in conference play.

“We are very pleased to sign Nishant as he has experience from two different Division I schools and played primarily at the top all of last season,” Bareford said. “He will have an immediate impact on our lineup.”

Dabas played for Big East champion St. John’s University as a freshman in 2022-23, finishing 12-4 in singles play and 8-6 in doubles action. He won eight straight singles matches at one point, including a win over No. 62 Brandon Perez of Old Dominion. He and his partner (Sergio Molina) earned Big East Doubles Team of the Week honors once.

The son of Naveer Kumar Dabas, he was the top-ranked player in India in 2021, and holds an ITF ranking of 97 and a career high ATP ranking of 1366. He engaged in media interviews with media outlets Dainik Bhaskar, TV 13 Gujarat, and GTPL News Gujarat in India, and on June 6 those will be available on the Dainik Bhaska newspaper web site. “By signing with Montana State University, I’m embarking on an exciting new chapter in my tennis career,” Dabas said. “The decision to join forces with Coach Rob Bareford and the university’s renowned tennis program exemplifies my dedication to advancing my athletic skills and pursuing academic excellence. MSU’s esteemed tennis program, coupled with Coach Bareford’s guidance, presents an ideal platform to further hone my talents and elevate my performance on the court. This commitment underscores my passion for tennis and aspirations to succeed both academically and athletically at the collegiate level. With the support of Coach Bareford and the resources available at Montana State, I believe I’m poised to make significant strides in my tennis journey.”

Dabas and graduate transfer Dmitry Bezborodov from Monmouth add experience to a Montana State squad that featured four freshman in 2023-24. The Cats finished 9-12 overall, 4-4 in Big Sky play while advancing to the conference tournament.
