One person dead after being hit by train in downtown Calgary

One person has died after being hit by a train in downtown Calgary Tuesday morning.

Calgary police tell CityNews a CPKC train hit a pedestrian around 10:50 a.m. on the 1 Street SW overpass between 9 and 10 Avenue SW.

Paramedics say an adult was taken to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition. Police later advised the victim had died from their injuries, according to CPKC.

Tuesday’s collision is the second incident within a week of someone getting struck by a freight train in Calgary.

Last Tuesday, a teen was killed after being hit by a train on a bridge over the Bow River in the city’s northwest.
