Closethegame Sugar earned the highest Brisnet Speed Rating among last weekend’s stakes winners for his upset victory in the Aristides at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

The 4-year-old Girvin colt, who is trained and co-owned by Adam Rice, went off at 18-1 and caught odds-on favorite Skelly late to win by a length. Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., he covered the six furlongs in 1:08.39. He also got a 99 Beyer Speed Figure.

It was only the second dirt start for Closethegame Sugar, who was second on the Churchill dirt in a May 2 optional-claiming allowance after a 7 1/2-month layoff.

The highest Beyer of the weekend went to Happy Jack, who earned a 105 for his win in the Triple Bend (G2) at Santa Anita. The 5-year-old son of Oxbow trained by Doug O’Neill led the four-horse field gate to wire and won by 4 1/2 lengths under jockey Edwin Maldonado.

It was the first stakes win for Happy Jack, who returned from a 10-month layoff to finish second in the Kona Gold on April 27.
