Kedar Jadhav retires from all forms of cricket in the middle of Maharashtra Premier League – Times of India

PUNE: Kedar Jadhav, the 39- year-old former India batter and the only World Cupper from Pune, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday via social media.

This announcement came after leading his team in a 54-run loss in the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) opener against Ratnagiri at Gahunje on Sunday.

Punit Balan, owner of the Kolhapur franchise, commented on Jadhav’s decision: “I am sure his decision is due to personal reasons only. There was nothing wrong between him and our team or with MCA. But since his phone is switched off, I have not managed to speak to him.”

Balan also revealed that Rahul Tripathi has been roped in as Jadhav’s replacement and will captain the team.

“He (Tripathi) won’t be available for the next match (against Pune on Tuesday). Shrikant Mundhe will lead in that match but Rahul will take charge for the match against Nashik on Wednesday.”



Jadhav’s tweet simply stated, “Consider me retired,” reflecting his decision without elaborating on the reasons. Notably, Jadhav had previously left the team mid-season during a Ranji Trophy game for personal reasons but attended a meeting initiated by new MCA president Rohit Pawar on the same day.

Tripathi, who had been snubbed by the Maharashtra think-tank before last season, took an NOC and played for Goa without much success. In the absence of star attractions in the MPL, authorities had to bring him back to mitigate damage to their revived T20 league.

Tripathi was part of the Hyderabad team in the IPL this year and has previously played for Pune, Kolkata and Rajasthan.

Attempts to reach Jadhav and Tripathi for further details were unsuccessful.

Jadhav’s illustrious career includes over 1,200 runs in the 2013-14 Ranji season, when Maharashtra reached the title clash, and a match- winning 120 off 76 balls against England in an ODI at Gahunje in 2017.
