Sony Announces $59.99 PlayStation VR2 Adapter for PC

Sony has officially announced its new PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, which will soon make the VR headset compatible with thousands of VR games on Steam. The adapter is priced at $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99, and it will be available starting August 7.

Sony’s PlayStation VR2 adapter will require a DisplayPort 1.4 cable to connect the headset to PCs. For the best performance, Sony recommends using a PC with an Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or newer and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 / AMD Radeon RX 6600XT or newer GPU.

On Windows, setting up the VR headset will require downloading the PlayStation VR2 app and the SteamVR app from Steam. Sony also emphasized that using the PS VR2 headset on a PC comes with some limitations compared to the console it was originally designed for.

“PS VR2 was designed from the ground up specifically for PS5 – so you’ll notice that some key features, like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble), are not available when playing on PC,” the company explained. “However, other high-fidelity and sensory immersion features of PS VR2 are supported, including 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, and see-through view, as well as foveated rendering (without eye tracking) and 3D Audio in supported games.”

Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset is currently on sale at $449.99 ($100 off) on direct.playstation.com, a discount that will be available until June 13. The PlayStation 5 accessory had limited appeal until now due to its price and the restricted library of VR games on the PS5. However, Sony making the headset compatible with thousands of SteamVR titles could make it much more appealing for gamers who own a gaming PC and a PS5.
