A super visa is a type of temporary immigration permit that permits grandparents and/or parents to reside in Canada with their family.

Consequently, grandparents and parents who are eligible for the super visa are able to remain in Canada for a period of five years without the need to renew their visa or apply for an extension.

A super visa application needs an invitation letter from a Canadian permanent resident or citizen inviting their parents or grandparents to Canada.

One of the eligibility requirements for invitees is to demonstrate annual income based on the size of their family, including themselves.

Another requirement is to submit a health insurance plan for the parent(s) or grandparent(s) with the super visa application.

A super visa is the best alternative to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), which only grants permanent residency to a small number of applicants.

10-year multiple-entry visitor visas, on the other hand, are limited to a six-month stay on each visit.
