Why Mirra Andreeva is so happy partnering with coach Conchita Martinez – Tennis Tonic – News, Predictions, H2H, Live Scores, stats

At the French Open, Mirra Andreeva has once again made headlines. The 17-year-old, perhaps the WTA Tour’s most exciting prospect, is back in the third round at Roland Garros after defeating Victoria Azarenka in round two and Emina Bektas in the first round.

On Saturday, Andreeva and Peyton Stearns will face off in an interesting match that could decide who will play in the second week. Conchita Martinez, the 1994 Wimbledon winner, also boosted her success on clay courts.

The two have only recently begun working together; they initially tried their cooperation at the Rouen Open in April. During the competition, the 17-year-old, who was introduced to Martinez by her agent, spoke positively about the association.

She expressed her thoughts about it and said: “I like it; I hope she likes it too. We will see how it goes, and then we will decide about our next tournaments. I cannot say there are special aspects we are working on. But the first thing we worked on was my slice because she was a good slicer. So she told me some tricks, and I’m trying to use them when I have time and a good possibility on the court.”

After her performance at the Australian Open, Andreeva had some form and fitness issues. Still, her quarterfinal performance at the WTA 1000 event in Madrid was a positive indication that she and Martinez were getting along well.
