Fecal bacteria levels prompt AHS water advisory for Lake Summerside

Article content

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is warning the public to stay out of the water at Lake Summerside in southwest Edmonton until further notice due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria.

AHS issued a water quality advisory late Friday advising the public to avoid swimming or wading in the beach area, effective immediately.

The advisory comes after tests results taken from the beach area near the lake.

AHS warns anyone ingesting the water risks gastrointestinal illness including vomiting or diarrhea.

It states contact with the water could also possibility lead to skin, ear, and eye infections.

AHS environmental public health officers will continue to monitor the water quality.
