Man dead in daylight shooting in Maple Ridge

A man is dead after a daylight shooting in downtown Maple Ridge on Friday.
Just after 5 p.m., shots rang out in the area of Lougheed Highway and 222 Street.
Ridge Meadows RCMP responded, along with first responders, and found a man with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save his life, the man died on scene.
Witnesses reported seeing the alleged male shooter fleeing the scene.

Initial evidence indicates the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public, said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which has taken over the case.
Investigators have identified the victim, but are not releasing his name at this time pending notification of next of kin.
Police remained in the area for hours after the shooting talking to witnesses and collecting security camera footage.
Anyone with information about the shooting or has dash-cam footage in the area between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448.
