Delapenha Golf Classic to offer special hole-in-one prize

Today’s seventh staging of the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic promises to be the biggest and best one yet with the tantalising prize of a 2024 Nissan Qashqai for the lucky golfer who can hit a hole in one at a selected hole on the golf course at Caymanas Golf and Country Club.

The Classic begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The event which was launched at the Fidelity Motors/Nissan Showroom at 5-18 Hanover Street on Friday, May 17 is always well supported by some of the top local golfers and Victor Tomlinson, the president of the Munro College Old Boys Association (MCOBA) is delighted with the support received from both corporate society and golfers so far.

“Our main prize this year will be a Nissan Qashqai for a hole-in-one at hole 10, so we anticipate that we will have a lot of support this year.

“Keller Williams has been our main sponsor for the last few years, we have Monymusk who have stepped up and JMMB and others, so we are having a grand tournament this year,” he explained.

“The funds raised from this tournament supports the sporting programmes at Munro College and this year so far, we are well on our way with attaining our targets. We welcome more support, especially that we have an attractive main prize,” Tomlinson said.

Deborah Stewart, general manager of Fidelity Motors Limited, stressed the importance of supporting the event.

“Fidelity Motors is proud to sponsor the Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic because we believe in supporting initiatives that foster excellence, community spirit and that contribute to the development of future athletes. This tournament not only honours a remarkable sports icon, but also raises funds for the sports programmes at Munro College, helping to nurture the talents of the next generation. Our commitment to the community aligns perfectly with the values represented by this event,” she said.

Peter Lindo, the tournament director anticipates that it will be another great day of golf at Caymanas.

“We are in for a very exciting day. It’s going to be a Stableford format and we will be having the Ladies’ category, Men’s, Men’s Senior and Men’s Super Senior categories,” Lindo said.

Lindy Delapenha after whom the tournament is named was an avid golfer and Lindo is quite pleased that the true Jamaican sporting legend continues to be honoured.

“It’s really good to honour one of sporting legends in Lindy Delapenha in this way. I look forward to a good day for everyone involved. Golf in not an easy game, but once you are bitten by the bug it’s hard to shake it.”

The cost for registration, which includes lunch, is $8500.

The main sponsors of the event are Keller Williams Realtors, Fidelity Motors (Nissan), CIBC, JMMB, CG United Insurance, Wisynco, Kleen Water, Regency Petroleum, JamGas, Jamaica Inn, Spanish Court Hotel, Jewel Paradise Cove Resort and Spa
