‘Astro Bot’ Game Coming to PlayStation 5 in September

A new “Astro Bot” game will be launching on PlayStation 5 on Sept. 6, Sony’s PlayStation revealed Thursday during its virtual “State of Play” presentation featuring upcoming titles.

Per PlayStation’s description, “In this brand-new game, you will explore six galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!”

The character Astro Bot first appeared in the 2018 PlayStation game “Astro Bot Rescue Mission.” He returned in “Astro Playroom,” a free technical game used to showcase the PS5’s capabilities at launch in 2020.

The “State of Play” online event, which focused heavily on titles that will be available for PS5 and PS VR2, also included a first look at gameplay for the upcoming game “Concord,” as well as the announcement of the game’s coming release on Aug. 23. The title, developed by Firewalk, is described as a 5v5 character-driven, first-person multiplayer shooter set in the Concord galaxy. “Concord” is a live services game that will include regular updates.

First look and release date news was also revealed about additional PlayStation and third-party titles, including a PC version of “God of War Ragnarök,” “Infinity Nikki,” “Dynasty Warriors,” “Ballad of Antara,” Skydance’s “Behemoth,” 20th Century Games’ “Alien: Rogue Incursion,” “Where Winds Meet,” NetEase Games’ “Marvel Rivals,” “Until Dawn,” “Path of Exile 2,” the “Silent Hill 2” remake and “Monster Hunter Wilds.”

New PlayStation co-CEOs Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst did not appear during the presentation, which was instead led by multiple PlayStation developers and execs, including head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash.

The “State of Play” event, which was first announced Wednesday, took place a week before Summer Game Fest, when video game companies and studios will be in attendance to unveil news about their new titles at different events. PlayStation’s biggest competitor, Microsoft’s Xbox, will host its own showcase event pegged to the festival on June 9.
