WWE Can’t Let Becky Lynch Go Out Like That, Damian Priest vs. Gunther, More Raw Takes

After a memorable King and Queen of the Ring at the weekend, WWE Raw looked forward to Clash at the Castle with its May 27 episode.

Becky Lynch hoped to avenge her Women’s World Championship loss in a steel cage match against Liv Morgan, but an unfortunate Dominik Mysterio interference again cost The Man.

Gunther declared his intention to capture the World Heavyweight Championship no matter who holds the title come SummerSlam. Both Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre made their case to hold the gold.

Lyra Valkyria picked up another big win, this time defeating Kairi Sane. She is set up perfectly to challenge Morgan next.

Rey Mysterio defeated Carlito but found himself at the mercy of Priest again in the never-ending rivalry with The Judgment Day.

This show put an end to key storylines while pushing others forward. The following are the key takes from the night.

Will Becky Lynch’s steel cage match with Liv Morgan be the final one in her WWE career?

Fightful Select reported Monday that The Man has still not been re-signed with her contract set to expire on June 1.

With husband Seth Rollins recently re-signing with WWE, per Fightful Select, it’s unlikely Lynch would leave WWE and sign with another wrestling company.

However, The Man has the leverage in contract negotiations to step away from wrestling for a while until WWE agrees to serious terms for a new contract.

While working in WWE, her acting opportunities have been limited, but she could take some major opportunities now. Fightful reported she was originally set to appear in a post-credits scene in Eternals that was cut due to its “depressing” tone.

The 37-year-old will find success wherever she goes next, but WWE still needs her. She is the biggest female star the company has produced and can main-event any show. She is arguably the best wrestler in the division.

In the coming years, WWE will need Lynch’s star power as well as her veteran expertise to elevate the next generation. Hopefully, for the company’s sake, this is not the end.

Gunther will be the challenger to the World Heavyweight Championship, come SummerSlam 2024. However, his opponent on August 3 remains in question.

Damian Priest holds the title going into Clash at the Castle, where where he will fight Drew McIntyre. Most expected The Scottish Warrior to walk out of the June 15 event as champion from the moment it was announced.

However, McIntyre vs. CM Punk remains the most obvious story for SummerSlam, assuming The Best in the World is healthy by that time.

Damian Priest has only defended the world title once on television since capturing it at WrestleMania 40.

However, a successful defense at Clash at the Castle and Money in the Bank would make him a more legitimate title contender to face The King General at SummerSlam.

Both men are heels at this point, but Priest is more likely to turn face by the show, especially with so much dissension in The Judgment Day.

Gunther vs. Priest or McIntyre are good matches, but a battle with The Punishment has more opportunity to grow naturally without delaying other big stories in WWE.

Lyra Valkyria has made an immediate impact since she was drafted to Raw. She was made in the Queen of the Ring tournament and has defeated nearly everyone in her path.

Even with her loss to Nia Jax, The Valkyrie has become the No. 2 babyface on Raw over the past month.

With Becky Lynch falling short against Liv Morgan, Valkyria should be the next up to challenge the women’s world champion.

With Clash at the Castle around the corner, the Irish wrestler would likely find a friendly crowd behind her for her challenge.

The timing is right, and WWE would be making a mistake delaying this challenge.

Since the inception of The Judgment Day in early 2022, Rey Mysterio has been a thorn in the side of the stable.

His involvement led to Dominik Mysterio joining the faction, and he has played a big part in the major story beats involving the group.

However, WWE needs to find a way to finally separate Rey and The Judgment Day in a lasting fashion. His involvement has only slowed the stable, especially Dirty Dom’s progression, recently.

With Carlito seemingly joining the group, that may not happen immediately. However, WWE must find a natural place to put an end to it all.

The only story left to tell is for Dirty Dom to escape the shadow of his father by defeating him definitively. Beyond that, WWE must avoid Rey’s influence weighing down fresh opportunities for Judgment Day’s story to evolve.
