Engineering student bets on cricket, dies by suicide
Vijayawada: A 22-year-old B. Tech student died by suicide on Monday after losing money in cricket betting.
Tadepalli police identified the student as M. Vamsi (22), a final year student of KL University and a resident of Vijayawada.
Tadepalli sub-inspector D. Ramesh said Vamsi left home at 11:00 pm on May 25. He sent a message to his mother from his mobile phone stating that he aspired to take good care of her and his father. In order to earn money, he betted on cricket and lost money. Vamsi said he was thus taking his life. Further, he shared his location with his mother.
Following this, Vamsi’s parents searched for their son along the Krishna River bank and traced his body on Monday morning.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Tadepalli police have registered a case.
