Driver Dies In Fiery Weekend Crash At Westchester Shopping Center

New Rochelle firefighters extinguished the flames, but the sole occupant of the car was found in the driver’s seat.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A fiery, late night crash at a normally busy New Rochelle shopping center has left one dead.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, New Rochelle police responded to the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center on Wilmot Road on a report of a car crash.

The first officers arriving on scene found a 2019 Honda Accord engulfed in flames. New Rochelle firefighters extinguished the flames, but the sole occupant of car was found in the driver’s seat dead.

New Rochelle Police Department Accident Investigators responded to the scene for further investigation, which remains ongoing, according to police officials.

“The New Rochelle Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” NRPD said in a statement released on Saturday.

Officials said they are not immediately releasing the identity or identifying information about the crash victim out of respect for the family.
