Alfie Hewett on what it means to win the Wimbledon singles title following final defeats in 2022 and 2023: “You don’t need to remind me [how tough previous defeats have been].

“I mean, I’m speechless, to be

doubles with Gordon [Reid] is good memories, but to leave on a singles final loss has been heart-breaking the last couple of years.

“But I’ve really seen the positives in my development and game on grass. Narrowly missing out has
been tough before and last night I was a ball of nerves, I’ll be honest. But I’m really proud of my
performance out there.

“I want to congratulate Martin over there, we’ve been playing since we were 10 years old. I just said at the net over there it’s incredible how far we’ve
come as competitors. I want to say you should be very proud of your week, I’m
sure this won’t be your last Grand Slam final.”
