Pakistan Cricket is under severe doldrums following their T20 World Cup exit. The Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to make some rapid changes as part of a massive overhaul.
To start the proceedings, PCB got rid of chief selector Wahab Riaz and another selection committee member Abdul Razzaq recently. A PCB statement read, “The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed that it has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup. Abdul Razzaq was a member of the men’s and women’s selection committee, while Wahab was a member of the men’s selection committee.
The PCB will provide further updates on the selection committee’s composition in due course.”
PCB has now revamped their selection committee and retained the services of former players Muhammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq. The new selection committee will be responsible for picking players for the upcoming Bangladesh Test series which is a part of the current World Test Championship cycle.
Yousuf was the batting coach of the Pakistan cricket team in the England tour and in the World Cup. Alongside these two the new selection committee will also consist of the captains and head coaches of the white ball and red ball cricket respectively. They will all have voting rights.
PCB also decided to include assistant coach Azhar Mahmood and four other members on the committee, but they will not have voting rights. The four members are advisor to PCB Chairman Bilal Afzal, Manager of Analytics and Team Strategy Hassan Cheema, Director of High-Performance Nadeem Khan, and Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla.
Bangladesh will travel to play two Test matches with Pakistan next month.
Asad Shafiq has also been given the responsibility of overseeing the women’s selection committee. He will be working with Batool Fatima, the women’s team captain Nida Dar, and head coach Mohammad Waseem.
