Which F1 rounds will have sprint races in 2025
Formula 1 will continue with six sprint format weekends in the 2025 season, meaning sprints will again be part of a quarter of the campaign’s 24 rounds.
F1 introduced the sprint format back in 2021, to a mixed reaction from F1’s hardcore fanbase but an overall positive response from the race promoters, and expanded from three sprint weekends a year to six in 2023.
“The sprint has been a great success for Formula 1, bringing all our fans more action and racing on the track,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “We are seeing the proof of this in our audience data, fan attendance on Fridays and from the promoters and partners.”
The roster of sprint weekends for 2025 is almost entirely unchanged from the current season, with only the Red Bull Ring ceding its sprint weekend in favour of one at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Belgian Grand Prix was previously a sprint weekend back in 2023.
2025 sprint races
Chinese GP (round two)
Miami GP (round six)
Belgian GP (round 13)
US GP (round 19)
Brazilian GP (round 21)
Qatar GP (round 23)
The sprint format has undergone several major changes to both the points allocation and the weekend scheduling since its 2021 introduction.
Under the current format, a single Friday practice session is followed by shortened Friday qualifying (featuring medium tyres in Q1 and Q2) to set the sprint grid, before the sprint itself takes place on Saturday.
Teams are now allowed to make changes to their cars between the sprint and grand prix qualifying later on Saturday, as previously parc ferme rules were in effect from Friday’s second session.
The sprint format as it is could still undergo further changes for 2025 but there are currently no formal proposals being deliberated on.
