Russel Sprecher Qualifies for 103rd Michigan Golf Association Amateur Championship – Northern Michigan University

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Russel Sprecher of the NMU men’s golf team has qualified for the 103rd Michigan Golf Association Amateur Championship, finishing tied for second after shooting even par in his qualifying round from Michaywe Pines golf club in Gaylord, Michigan.

The GAM took eight qualifiers and two alternates of 47 golfers golfers. Russel fired home four birdies and 10 pars en route to his even 72. The full leaderboard can be found here.

Russel started his round hot, shooting -2 in his opening seven holes, that included birdies on the 540-yard par-5 second and 336-yard par-4 sixth. Sprecher was one of only three golfers to birdie the sixth, and one of eight to birdie the second. 

After bogie’s on holes eight and ten, Russel made four pars and a birdie in his next five holes, birdieing the 557-yard par-5 14th. A bogey, birdie, bogey finish and Sprecher turned in a 37 (+1) on the back to go with his 35 (-1) on the front. Sprecher was one of eight golfers to birdie the 14th, and one of seven golfers to birdie the 534-yard par-5 17th.
