Woman And Child Carjacked At Shopping Center

One of the scariest car theft trends we’ve been watching unfold is an increase in carjackings. While some people blow carjackings off as no big deal, saying all you have to do is hand over your keys and nothing bad will happen, we’ve seen cases where that isn’t the outcome.

Watch Canadian police make a big car theft bust.

The carjacking happened on the night of July 3 as the woman and her child were at the Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Just after 7 pm, the woman was about to get into a rental car she had been using when two masked men approached and took the vehicle, reports Insauga.

According to the report, there was no mention by police of a weapon presented. It also didn’t detail if the woman or child were assaulted, only calling the incident a “disturbing event” for Mississauga.

However, a third accomplice in another vehicle was mentioned. It common to have one person in a stolen car drop off carjackers to steal yet another ride.

Police are asking the public for any information about the carjacking. Anyone can call police at 905-453-3311 or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

There are a lot of blank spots in this story, but we feel it’s important to highlight a few things here. First, criminals will absolutely target a mom alone with her child or children. That’s a sad reality and something people probably don’t want to think about much.

Second, with no description of the men (we get they were wearing masks but some details would be helpful) combined with nothing about the getaway vehicle or the rental car, we don’t know how the public can help with the case. Someone might remember something based on the vehicles involved or from other details.

Finally, it would be good to know if these carjackers have been violent or not. If they have, alerting the public to that seems like a baseline responsibility the police have.
