Hello Kitty Meets Designer Fashion in New Luxury Bags & Purse Release

Sanrio’s Hello Kitty has collaborated with luxury fashion house Samantha Thavasa on a new collection of bags and purses, with the newly released range a celebration of the famous kitten’s big anniversary year.

Samantha Thavasa rolled out the massive line of luxury Hello Kitty bags, purses and accessories for Kitty White’s 50th anniversary, spanning the numerous brands under the company’s umbrella. The range includes handbags priced around US$246, backpacks (~$205), shoulder bags (~$190), tote bags (~$226), long wallets (~$157) and charms. Thavasa’s ‘SamanthaVega’ brand adds a heart-inspired series of shoulder bags, handbags and wallets, all with a quilted heart texture. Meanwhile, the Samantha Thavasa Petit Choice label unveils its tartan-inspired series of purses, while last but not least, Samantha Tiara accessories feature a range of necklaces, earrings and more. Samantha Thavasa has previously collaborated with other major Japanese franchises such as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Jujutsu Kaisen, Detective Conan and Hunter x Hunter on luxury merchandise, the latter of which included a smartphone shoulder pouch, shoulder bag, handbag, wallet, multi-case, zipper charm and bag charm. The Samantha Thavasa Petit Choice tartan collection follows Sanrio’s line of products, officially registered with The Scottish Register of Tartans — a collection that includes plush dolls, backpacks and much more for a total of 13 new products.

Bags have been a feature of numerous other Hello Kitty collaborations. Japanese brand Beams Couture released a retro collection for Kitty’s 50th anniversary including tote bags. This followed Runway Channel’s 10-brand collaboration with totes, handbags and trendy clothing to match. Fans can expect further later this year, with collections for the summer and fall set to drop in the coming weeks.
