Smiling faces and full bellies at Kelowna’s RibFest – Kelowna News

Hundreds, if not thousands of people flocked to City Park in Kelowna on Saturday for RibFest, trying some of the best ribs and meats from around North America.

The three-day event is in Kelowna for the first time since 2019, and everyone was looking to get their fill as there were five different rib companies to choose from.

“It has been non-stop lineups since 11 o’clock this morning when we opened, it’s been fabulous. Everybody is in a great mood, everyone wants to eat, and people are ready to spend money,” said Michelle from Smoke Dem Bones out of Penticton.

Each station was showing off trophies and first place finishes, but Bubba Lou’s out of North Carolina had a lineup of trophies for a number of different awards they’ve won from their tour and seemed to carry the most gold,

They tell Castanet there’s nothing that compares to their ribs.

“We got a lot of number one trophies, we got the best sauce, it’s like a sweet and smokey sauce, it’s good. We’ve got best ribs, best chicken, it’s all over Ontario because we are out here visiting right now and we’re trying to win everything, so we brought out the trophies over here to show you guys that we are the best,” said cook Lester Jordan.

Cooking ribs is a life on the road for these companies, but Lester says it’s all worth it when they get to share their best flavours with the world week after week.

“I’m a carny. It’s a crazy thing to say, but yeah, we’re carneys. The day to day life is always on the road, we get a couple of days on our own at home, but yeah, we are hotel to hotel and it’s not bad. Like I said, you get to sight see and this is the best scene I’ve seen so far out here. I appreciate you guys for letting me come out here,” said Jordan.

If you haven’t had a chance to try the food here in City Park, come down to RibFest on Sunday as the event is running from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
