MUN Student Demonstrators Charged With Trespassing

Three university students have been charged with trespassing after the RNC were called in to assist in disbanding a protest on campus.

Administration at MUN called the RNC for assistance on Friday night after students involved in a pro-Palestinian demonstration refused to leave the Arts and Administration Building.

Officers explained the need to follow the university’s orders and the three students were escorted off campus property by Memorial’s campus enforcement without incident.

MUN says the removal of the students, who had been camping on the premises for nearly a month, came following an inspection by St. John’s Regional Fire Department that outlined a number of health and safety risks with the encampment. They say students were given ample time to vacate the area and were given several opportunities to leave before charges were laid.

Each student will appear in court at a later date.
