Iowa State football lands commitment from 3-star safety Joshua Patterson

Iowa State football added 3-star safety Josh Patterson to its 2025 recruiting class on Thursday.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound rising senior out of Ed White High School (Jacksonville, Fla.) is the No. 104 player in Florida, No. 67 safety in the country and a top-800 player nationwide, according to 247Sports Composite.

Patterson chose the Cyclones over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and several other Division I programs. He comes from a football family with two brothers playing college football: Jaison (Bowling Green, running back) and Davaughn (Wake Forest, defensive back).

A two-way player at Ed White, Patterson recorded 19 tackles, four broken-up passes, three interceptions and a fumble recovery on defense. He added seven receptions for 172 yards and three touchdowns on offense.

Patterson’s commitment is the 13th in Matt Campbell’s 2025 recruiting class. He is the second safety to commit, joining in-state Spirit Lake rising star Ethan Stecker.
