The post comes days after Bouchard made comments about how “sex appeal” contributed to her fame. “Tennis, first of all, is a great sport for that sex appeal side,” Bouchard told YouTuber Valeria Lipovetsky in a podcast episode on June 18. “We’re wearing short skirts, we’re wearing tank tops. It’s fun to turn on the TV and watch that. Right away I was able to get great marketing deals off the court. Being asked to be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition a few times.”

“Exploring that path was definitely on my to-do list. It’s definitely part of who I am because I think it’s great,” she added.

In a 2019 interview with The Telegraph, she clapped back at the haters who criticised her for being so invested in Instagram. “Who are the most famous people in the world? They have the most haters in the world. Kim Kardashian, Donald Trump. It’s part of life now, so we have to accept it. You have to distance yourself from it and not take it too personally, and also realise that most of them would want to be in your spot,” she said.

Here’s what we know about the controversial tennis star – who has also become a social media sensation:

Although Bouchard hasn’t retired, she doesn’t seem to play as many matches as she used to, according to ESPN. She competed in a tennis event on the ITF tour earlier this year, per Tennis Canada.

She did, however, sign a deal in 2023 with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour, with the PPA calling it “one of the biggest signings of the year”. ESPN reported that the Canadian player wasn’t able to replicate her tennis success since her breakthrough season in 2014, and had also suffered a series of injuries that may have contributed to her downfall.
