The MP for Avalon calls the continued delay of the Argentia ferry run “disastrous” for tourism operators and travellers alike.
Mechanical issues have kept Marine Atlantic’s brand new Ala’suinu on the sidelines since June. The Crown corp is aiming to have the run reinstated by July 11, but that date is not firm.
Ken McDonald understands that the safety of passengers comes first, but says something has to be done as the cancellations continue to pile on for local businesses.
“I’ve gotten calls from BnB’s down on the cape shore, I’ve gotten calls from people on the southern shore, BnB’s had things booked and steady, everyday cancellations [are] coming in,” said McDonald.
“Our tourism season is not that long when people want to come here and visit family or maybe just sightsee. Again, it is disastrous.”
