5 working fires in 24 hours
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services responded to 14 fires in 24 hours from June 11 to 12:
501 East Broadway
7:40am: Firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a wall at a 2 storey business. Fire was contained with an extinguisher and firefighters ensured extinguishment. No injuries reported.
The fire is under investigation.
1730 William Street
3:05pm: Firefighters were called to a residential house for reports of smoke and flames from inside the unit. Firefighters found a kitchen fire and were able to contain the fire to the unit and assist with rescuing 2 cats from inside. No injuries.
The fire was accidental and caused by cooking.
1058 Nelson Street
8:00pm: Crews responded to a residential high rise for a unit on fire. Crews extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported. The sprinkler and water damage affected 5 units, displacing 9 persons. ESS called to assist.
The cause of the fire was smoker’s material.
415 Alexander Street
8:55pm: Firefighters responded to the 400 Block of Alexander Street at a residential building for a report of heavy smoke and explosion inside a unit. Firefighters found an E-Scooter that caught fire and was extinguished with an extinguisher.
The cause of the fire was accidental from an incompatible charging system. Thank you to VPD for their help on scene.
122 Water Street
9:10pm: Firefighters were called to 122 Water Street, an SRO building, for reports of smoke in a hallway. Firefighters found a sprinkler system activated and extinguished the remaining fire.
No injuries reported, the fire is under investigation.
6500 NW Marine Drive
9:43pm: Firefighters were called to the 6500 Block of NW Marine drive for a fire at the bottom of trail 6. Firefighters extinguished the fire and it is under investigation.
1025 Granville Street
11:17pm: Firefighters were called to the 4th fire this year in an SRO building at 1025 Granville Street. Firefighters responded to a fire in a washroom that extended up to the 2nd and 3rd floor from the exterior of the building. Firefighters contained the fire and prevented further fire spread and damage.
While crews were extinguishing the fire, a fire was set behind the building while firefighters were on scene fighting the original fire. No persons were injured in the fire. The fire is under investigation.
1477 Continental Street
3:58am: Firefighters were called to a high rise residential building for reports of smoke from a roof. Crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof top of the 9 storey building. Crews accessed the area and extinguished the fire preventing further loss and damage.
The fire is under investigation.
Numerous incendiary dumpster/garbage fires
Firefighters responded to numerous set dumpster fires downtown last night. Fires were set at:
- 500 Block of Seymour Street
- Robson and Broughton
- 600 Block of Seymour
- 100 Block of Water Street
- 2 dumpsters and 1 mattress on fire simultaneously on the 00 Block of E Hastings back alley
- Tupper and 16th
