49ers Sign RB Christian McCaffrey to a Two-Year Extension

The San Francisco 49ers today announced the team has signed 2023 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year RB Christian McCaffrey to a two-year extension through the 2027 season.

“Two years ago, we were ecstatic to welcome Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers,” said President of Football Operations and General Manager John Lynch. “Since his arrival, he’s been everything we thought he would be and more. His versatile skillset has been a seamless fit within our offense. His professionalism and work ethic are as exemplary as I’ve seen since I’ve been associated with the NFL. We look forward to working with Christian for many years to come.”

The 49ers originally acquired McCaffrey (5-11, 210) in a trade from the Carolina Panthers on October 21, 2022. Since joining the team, McCaffrey has appeared in 27 games (26 starts) and registered 431 carries for 2,205 yards (5.1 average) and 20 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 119 receptions for 1,028 yards (8.6 average) and 11 touchdowns through the air. He has also started in six postseason contests and recorded 99 rushes for 506 yards and six touchdowns while adding 31 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the recipient of team’s Bill Walsh Award, which is voted on by the coaching staff and given to the 49ers player who best represents the standard of professional excellence established by Walsh.

Since entering the NFL in 2017, McCaffrey ranks first in receptions (509), receiving yards (4,320) and yards from scrimmage (10,505), second in receiving touchdowns (29) and fourth in rushing touchdowns (52) among NFL running backs. He has recorded 6,185 rushing yards which is the sixth-most in the NFL during that span. He has earned AP All-Pro honors three times (First-Team, 2019 & 2023; Second-Team, 2018) and been named to the Pro Bowl on three occasions (2020, 2023-24).

A 27-year-old native of Highlands Ranch, CO, McCaffrey attended Stanford University where he appeared in 38 games (25 starts) and totaled 6,987 all-purpose yards and 33 total touchdowns.
