Evan Haywood won’t be the only scholarship freshman on Butler‘s 2024-25 roster after all.
On Wednesday, Thad Matta received the commitment from four-star forward Colt Langdon, who was originally in the 2025 class before deciding to reclassify for 2024.
A Raleigh, N.C. product, Langdon picked Butler over other finalists Notre Dame and LSU, declaring his allegiance live on YouTube via On3 Recruits. Langdon was ranked No. 135 in the 2025 class, per 247Sports’ Composite and the 28th-best power forward.

“The relationship I had with the staff,” Langdon told On3’s Joe Tipton on why Butler. “Coach Matta, he’s a legend. And coach (Alex) Barlow, we talked to them almost everyday and it’s bigger than basketball with him. How comfortable I am with the staff and the basketball culture is a perfect for me.”
Last season, as a junior at Millbrook (N.C.) High School, the 6-7 Langdon averaged 26.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 blocks per game and is a 37% 3-point shooter, with 182 makes from deep in his three seasons. He became Millbrook’s all-time leading scorer (1,758 points) and set a school record for most points in a season (738) this year. He was named the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Associated District 5 Player of the Year and has won back-to-back conference player of the year honors.
“I was looking for somewhere where I can really grow on and off the court. Be a better person… A program that can develop me into a great man,” Langdon told Tipton on what he was looking for in a program.
He also had offers from Iowa, Illinois, West Virginia, Ole Miss and more. Langdon was at Hinkle Fieldhouse for Butler’s thrilling double overtime win over Villanova on Jan. 27.
Langdon’s commitment gives Butler 12 scholarship players for the upcoming season and will likely be given time to develop behind Jahmyl Telfort, Patrick McCaffery and Augusto Cassia at power forward.
As for the 2025 class, Butler made the final five for Lawrence North point guard Azavier Robinson and have been heavily involved with Iowa City’s Jack McCaffery, younger brother of incoming Iowa transfer Patrick McCaffery.
