2025 Arizona offensive lineman Nick Spence commits to Minnesota Football

Minnesota’s big football recruiting weekend is this weekend and next as it’s PJ Fleck’s famed “Summer Splash” official visit weekends. Coming into this weekend, the Gophers had eleven commitments, as they have California quarterback Jackson Kollock, Ohio running back Grant Washington Andover wide receiver Cameron BegalleOhio tight end Cross NimmoWisconsin defensive lineman Torin Pettaway and Rhett HlavackaCooper rush end Emmanuel Karmo, Byron defensive end Colin HansenIndiana defensive lineman Enoch AtewogbolaCaledonia linebacker Ethan Stendeland Georgia defensive back Zachry Harden

With the Gophers looking to build some recruiting momentum into June, they just added a verbal commitment from Peoria (Ariz.) Liberty offensive lineman Nick Spence.

Spence held offers from Minnesota, Duke, and Iowa State, among others, but the Gophers were his lone official visit set, and he’d already seen a Gophers’ spring practice and raved about his experience.

“After getting to talk with Coach Fleck for the first time face-to-face, he’s a dynamic coach, gives off a great energy, and cares a lot of his team and the program,” Spence told 247Sports. “I’d say my favorite part of my time in Minnesota was being able to sit through meetings with the players and getting to know Coach Callahan and Coach Bain on a higher level. I want to make sure I feel comfortable with the people that I am putting my future in their hands and trust what they have in store for me.

Heading into this visit, I’m looking forward to getting to know all the coaching staff on a higher level and also hopefully some of the players.”

With the Gophers losing Tyler Cooper and Quinn Carroll to graduation after the season, plus a high likelihood of left tackle Aireontae Ersery heading to the NFL after the season, I’d anticipate Brian Callahan taking a handful of linemen in this class. And when you put on the tape, I get why Callahan is a fan. Spence plays both right tackle and guard for his high school team, and he can move well on his feet. He can slide his feet at tackle and pulls well in space.

I’d likely project him as a right tackle or interior guy at Minnesota, but he fits the mold of a Callahan offensive lineman.

Stay tuned for more on Spence’s commitment.
