2023-24 TCU Women’s Tennis Season Recap

The TCU women’s tennis team concluded the 2023-24 season with a winning record, finishing 12-9 overall and 7-6 in the Big 12 Conference. It’s the second consecutive winning season for the Horned Frogs, who collected wins over notable opponents including SMU, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State. Among the fall events TCU participated in were the TCU Invitational and the ITA All-American Championships, where Destinee Martins and Isabel Pascual advanced to the Round of 16 in the qualifying rounds. The duo also reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Texas Regional, where Martins reached the semifinals in singles.

TCU started the second half of the 2023-24 season with a 7-0 win over Northwestern State. The Horned Frogs split their two matches during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, defeating Rice 4-1 and falling against No. 9 Texas A&M. TCU collected nonconference victories over Incarnate Word and UT-Arlington before beginning Big 12 Conference action with three straight sweeps over West Virginia, Cincinnati and Houston. TCU battled Kansas State in the opening round of the Big 12 Conference tournament, where the Horned Frogs seemingly edged the Wildcats 4-3 before a rule reversal resulted in a season-ending loss for TCU.

The Horned Frogs concluded the season with four All-Big 12 honorees including Destinee Martins, Raquel Caballero, Isabel Pascual and Jade Otway. Martins finished the 2023-24 season as the No. 89 ranked singles player nationally, while Chiho Mushika and Yu-Chin Tsai ended the season as the No. 75 ranked doubles duo nationally. TCU will lose three players from the 2023-24 roster including Martins (senior), Mushika (graduate student) and Margaret Polk (graduate student). Among the notable players eligible to return for the 2024-25 season are Pascual (senior) as well as Otway (junior) and Helena Narmont (junior). Tsai (sophomore) and Caballero (freshman) are also eligible to come back next year.
