20 remote jobs that don’t require a bachelor’s degree

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work has become more common. But four years in, the return-to-work trend has made fully-remote positions even more coveted for their flexibility and freedom.

Flexjobs recently listed 20 remote jobs that generally do not require a college degree to help job seekers find a role that accepts skills and experience instead, while allowing them to make money from home.

Interest in degree-free jobs is only expected to increase in the years ahead. In a 2023 report from Gen Z and millennial market research platform YPulse, 57% of Gen Z middle school students and 49% of Gen Z high school students believe work experience is more important than a college education. In addition, 80% of Gen Z middle school students and 85% of high school students plan to go to college, compared to 100% pre-pandemic.

Some of the top remote opportunities, according to Flexjobs, include both contract and full-time roles such as accounting clerk, bookkeeper and customer service. The role of accounting clerk usually requires at least a year of experience. A worker in this role would process accounts payable and receivable, compile reports, and reconcile bank deposits.

Bookkeepers handle an organization’s general financial ledger by recording transactions, producing financial statements, and checking financial records for accuracy. While organizations typically want bookkeepers with some postsecondary education, they may often provide on-the-job training, and bookkeepers can also pursue professional certifications through various organizations. Customer service workers are hired as the direct point of contact for customers, addressing their questions or concerns.
