10 cool travel destinations with low airfares for Canadians looking to beat the heat | insauga

Canadians are known for travelling to escape the cold but this summer some people may be looking to beat the heat.

The GTA is under a heat warning today (July 15) and tomorrow as temperatures soar to nearly 40 C with the humidex. The warning follows several heat waves since June.

The warm weather is expected to stick around with temperatures over 25 C on the weekend.

The weather may have some looking for a travel destination with cooler temperatures.

Places to the north or much farther south typically have lower temperatures. Countries such as Norway or Iceland, for example, warm up in the summer but the average temperature, from around 13 to 18 C, is much cooler than southern Ontario right now.

Of course, countries in the southern hemisphere such as Argentina or Peru are in their winter season right now. So, those countries could be a good choice for those looking for cooler weather.

Travel search engine Kayak put together a list of the cheapest “coolcation” destinations for Canadians.

Bucket-list destinations like Iceland, Peru, or the Netherlands all have low airfares and temperatures averaging below 24 C at their peak.

Here is the list from Kayak:

For this list, Kayak considered the most popular international destinations with the lowest average airfare and an average high temperature not greater than 24 C.

Average airfare and temperatures are based on search dates between Jan. 1 to June 15, 2024 for travel between May 17 to Sept. 3, 2024. Destinations were also filtered by certain search and click thresholds to ensure data integrity. Airfares are on average and are subject to change.
