1 killed in robbery at Fashion Island retail center in Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH – A person was killed Tuesday during an apparent robbery at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle during the robbery, police said during a news conference. Three suspects were arrested after the robbery, in which shots were fired.

News video from the scene showed a police had placed a tent over a victim on a street at the center.

The robbery startled staff and shoppers at Fashion Island, at 401 Newport Center Drive, described by its owner, the Irvine Company, as “an unrivaled setting for ultra-premium shopping, dining and lifestyle brands.”
